Legend has it that anyone who dares to open this book will immediately hear in their head the sound of a storm followed by three beats that soon join to some infernal riffs that will force them to headbang madly.
I doubted this legend and here I am writing this review and banging my head nonstop!
“The bloody reign of Slayer” written by Joel Mciver and released for the 3rd time in Brazil, this time by the publisher Estética Torta that delivers an exquisite work with a luxury finish with a hardcover, pollen paper, good layout and red paint around the edges, matching the bloody Alcides Burn cover art. It is worth noting that the translation by Marcelo Viegas is cohesive and almost error-free, since the main criticism of the 1st release here in Brazil was the poor translation work done by Edições Ideal, so much so that shortly afterwards, they re-released it, with a new translation and cover art.
Joel starts by informing us that this biography is not official, but this detail does not diminish it, on the contrary, the freedom that the author has to write and give his opinion makes this book something more sincere and critical. Joel divides his work into 29 chapters that start a brief genesis of the group and then intersperse with chapters named after the titles of the albums and others named after the years with no releases. In the chapters named after the albums, in addition to bringing all the information about the recordings and events of the period, he gives us his sincere opinion of each of the compositions and, in the others, he gives us a rich work on the tours, polemics, and change of members. This edition also has an appendix that summarizes the band’s career from 2010 to 2019, written by Clovis Roman.
“If you want to experience EVERYTHING that heavy music has to offer, catch a Slayer concert. If you miss it (…) you will regret it for the rest of your life”. I can say that I am very sorry that I didn’t go to one of their shows, but this book eased that pain a bit, Joel makes you feel how dedicated they were to always make the best, heaviest, and fastest metal show in the world.
This book is just like a blood-red rain of information and, of course, a tribute to SLAYER!
Reza a lenda que quem ousar abrir esse livro, vai ouvir de imediato na sua cabeça o som de uma tempestade seguida de três batidas que logo se unem a uns riffs infernais que o forçarão a bater cabeça loucamente. Duvidei dessa lenda e cá estou escrevendo essa resenha e batendo cabeça sem parar! “O reino sangrento do Slayer” escrito por Joel Mciver e lançado pela 3ª vez no Brasil, dessa vez pela editora Estética Torta que nos entrega um trabalho primoroso com acabamento de luxo que conta com capa dura, papel pólen, boa diagramação e uma pintura vermelha nas bordas que combina com a arte sangrenta da capa do Alcides Burn.
Vale salientar que a tradução de Marcelo Viegas é coesa e quase sem erros, já que a principal critica do 1º lançamento aqui no Brasil foi o péssimo trabalho de tradução feito pela Edições Ideal, tanto que pouco depois, relançaram a obra, com uma nova tradução e arte de capa. Joel começa nos informando que essa biografia não é oficial, mas esse detalhe não diminui a obra, pelo contrário, a liberdade que o autor tem para escrever e dar sua opinião fazem desse livro algo mais sincero e critico.
Joel divide seu trabalho em 29 capítulos que dão partida num breve gênese do grupo e depois vai intercalando com capítulos nomeados com os títulos dos álbuns e outros nomeados com os anos sem lançamentos. Nos capítulos dos álbuns, além de trazer todas as informações sobre as gravações e acontecimentos do período, ele nos dá sua opinião sincera de cada uma das composições e nos outros capítulos ele nos entrega um rico trabalho sobre as turnês, polêmicas e troca de integrantes. Essa edição ainda conta com um apêndice que resume a carreira da banda de 2010 a 2019, escrito por Clovis Roman.
“Se você quer conferir TUDO o que a musica pesada tem a oferecer, assista a um show do Slayer. Se perder (…) você vai se arrepender pelo resto da sua vida”. Eu posso dizer que sinto muito o fato de não ter ido a um show deles, mas esse livro diminuiu um pouco essa dor, Joel te faz sentir o quão eles se dedicavam para fazer sempre o melhor, o mais pesado e rápido show de metal do mundo.
Esse livro é isso: uma chuva vermelha de informações e claro, uma homenagem ao SLAYER!
